Hanging with the Haulters

Last night, we made a campfire and ate smores with the Haulters. Earlier in the evening, the boys played in the yard, rode the gator, Avery got the best of Rhett while wrestling, and Rhett and Avery danced on the deck while listening to music. After the boys went down, Adam and I set out into the darkness to take on a nest of yellow jackets and extract revenge on them for giving Avery 20 "boo-boos" with the business end of their stingers. We loaded their ground nest with lighter fluid, set a fire, then got spooked when we heard them buzzing around with an angry disposition. We covered their nest entry with a flat rock and ran for our lives.

KING'S ISLAND!!!

On July 13 and 14th, we went to King's Island with our small group (The Kretz's and Harsh's). It was an adult only trip, and we enjoyed feeling like teens again! On Monday evening, we went to Bob's parents' house in Dayton, OH to swim and spend the night. On Tuesday, we went back to the park to ride a couple more coasters and hung out in the lazy river and wave pool at Bahama Blast. It was a fun trip and we were all thankful our parents watched our kids so we could get away together.

Walking with the Dinosaurs

Today we went to Conseco Fieldhouse in Indy to see the show, "Walking with the Dinosaurs." It was awesome! The boys loved it. These dinosaurs were machines made to look like real dinos. They moved, roared, and even ate. The host told a story as dinosaurs established dominance, fought, and nurtured their young. The T-rex stole the show with it enormous presence and deafening roar. You should have seen the boys' faces when the T-rex came out, it was a look of awe and terror combined.

Hanging in the Creek

Today, I was down at the creek weed eating the tall weeds that had grown up around the dock and bank. I then did some more trimming around our wood piles. When I cam back to the creek, I saw a water snake swimming. It swam over to some rocks, then went between them on the bank with its head sticking out just above the water. I had my cell phone, called Jenny, and had her send Rhett down to the creek (Avery was asleep). We watched the snake for a minute, then it took off...thinking it was scared of us. About a minute later, it reappeared and swam tot he bank just in front of the dock where Rhett and I were standing. I had Rhett run to the house and get the camera as the snake ate the fish right in front of us. Pretty amazing stuff. Later, Rhett and I went fishing and caught nothing. But we found and captured 2 tadpoles, a muscle/clam, and a shell with a snail living in it within the creek (never seen this in my life). We also caught a different snake, but it got away from our bucket.

Bike Riding

Yesterday, Rhett and Avery enjoyed the day playing outside and riding bikes. Rhett lost the training wheels 2 days ago and now can ride by himself! Later in the evening, we went to Grandma and Grandpa Berryman's for a cookout.

Rhett Lost His 1st Tooth

On the 4th of July, Grandma Mary drive down from Ft. Wayne for the day and Rhett lost his 1st tooth. It became lose about 2 weeks ago as Rhett tried taking a cap off a bottle with his teeth. Dad pulled it out with ease, virtually no effort. The tooth fairy came that night and left Rhett $3.75 under his pillow...and Rhett used the money to buy a toy animal at Target.

Symphony on the Prairie - Fireworks

On July 3rd, we attended the Symphony on the Prairie with our small group at Conner Prairie in Fishers, IN. We had a good time hanging out and eating a picnic-style dinner, enjoyed the orchestra, then watched some awesome fireworks to patriotic music. This is our 4th consecutive year attending this event, and it was as good this year as the 1st year. We always enjoy this night despite the incredible traffic and 12,000+ people in attendance.
